As I write this news letter, we have two more days to receive our complete bid on the new facility. Then it’s crunch time. By the time I write next month’s newsletter I should be able to give you some definite answers with a schedule of activities. Keep your fingers crossed!
MARINA STORE

Sat: 5 am - 9 pm

This means the boats must be at the dock no later than the time specified. If you are having boat trouble or are running late for some other reason, please be courteous to call.
ANOTHER REMINDER!
As you may have noticed, it’s been very busy here lately! If you are fishing for the day, please park on the east or west side of the building, NOT in front of the Tiki Bar and Grills restaurant, the marina store, the wash down racks, or the center dock!! Charter boats please inform your charter of this also. Thank you for your cooperation.
Upcoming Tournaments
Coming up on July 10th is the Seventh-Annual Rusty’s Canaveral Offshore Classic. Contact: Frank Stevens 321-783-2033.
July 17th Sunrise Marina will be hosting the Jack Zinn Memorial Tournament sponsored by Kiwanis of Central Orlando. Registration Fee is $200. Over $20,000 in prizes. Categories will be Dolphin, Wahoo, Kingfish and Trout or Redfish (Largest Fish Inshore). Contact: Kyle G Roe, 407-947-7781.
FISHING FORECAST
JULY IS KING! King mackerel, for those using live menhaden (pogies), can be spectacular. These 15 - 40 lb. toothed rockets can be found everywhere including inside Port Canaveral, the beaches, 8A reef and Pelican flats. Offshore trolling action for dolphin and wahoo can be hot, or not, on any given day. Bottom fishing can be great in the 240 ft. area if the current and the bottom water temperature cooperate. Inshore action will include flounder, tripletail, and tarpon near the beaches.
GRILLS Seafood Deck and Tiki Bar
The Grills/FSFA Tournament was a lot of fun and went off without a hitch. Thanks again to all of the participants who made this tournament a success.
Congratulation go to Lee Meyers and Skip Harris with Fish Box Charters, they took home the 21’ Polar boat, 200 HP Yamaha and Trailer donated by AVANZA Marine. For the rest of us…….better luck next year!
Thanks again

TOURNAMENTS
The Cal Dixon 8th Offshore Tournament turned into the Cal Dixon Onshore Party. We had lots of rain but lots of fun. Thanks to everyone who participated. ARC raised approx. $15,000.00. ARC and Sunrise Marina appreciate your support for this worthy cause and hope everyone is looking forward to a successful tournament next year. A list of winners is posted on www.sunrisemarina.com.
Sunrise Marina will once again host the Grills FSFA tournament on June 5th. Dolphin, Wahoo, King, Cobia, Grouper and Snapper are the targeted species. Cash payout for 1st-3rd in the individual categories and the grand slam award. Proceeds from this tournament will go to the Florida Sport Fishing Association.
NEW FACILITY
We have PLANS, the General Contractor has plans, there is a concrete shortage and the cost of steel has increased approx. 50%. Timing IS everything! And apparently we have bad timing. When we receive the complete bid package (approx. one month) we will then be able to determine the projected start date. Keep your fingers crossed that the concrete shortage doesn’t last and the cost of construction doesn’t keep escalating.
F.Y.I
Please remember to be courteous when using the fish cleaning table and coming into the fuel docks. I realize that everyone is anxious to get the job done at the end of your long days. We have added fuel dispensers so that there is less waiting, however, if the first boat in, docks at the north end of the north/south pier on the fuel dock, then the next boat may not be able to get around to the south end of the fuel dispensers. We are working at making this transition a smoother process, please be patient with us.
FISHING FORECAST
If you’ve ever dreamt of catching a sailfish, June is one of the better months to make that dream a reality. Along with those sailfish, other trolling species can fill your fish box, such as wahoo and dolphin, although the dolphin fishing can tend to slow up a little bit. Bottom fishing can be good, however, it all depends on the water temperature. As for inshore fishing, snook is now out of season, so we hope you had your chance to get them while they were hot! Triple tail can still be spotted around buoys and soon, tarpon should surface just off the beaches. Also, live baiting for smoker kingfish isn’t too far Away.
Tuna Town
The “other side” (of the Gulf Stream) has been heating up lately with phenomenal catches of Tuna and Dolphin coming to the dock. This spring and summer fishery is gaining more popularity with those who have the range and speed. Most fish are being found 70 to 100 mi. out of the Port. High Speed lures pulled between 7 and 9 knots seem to be the bait of choice. We have in stock Todd’s Lures and Braid Lil’ Speedster in Midnight or Purple and Black. Bird radar is key to locating the large flocks of birds attracted to the feeding tuna. Extra caution must be used when planning these trips. The other side generates severe thunderstorms very quickly. 80 miles out is a long way from home when the wind is blowing 40 knots and seas are 8 to 10 ft!
HAPPY ENDINGS
Summer is in full swing! The Tiki Bar is Rockin! Grills is turning out incredible seafood! and Sunrise Marina has everything you need for a great day of fishing! What else is there!

F.Y.I.
Well not too many complaints about this winter! Hope everyone managed to get in a few days of good fishing when mother nature allowed. This summer promises to be as busy as this facility has ever seen. The month of May as always is tournament time at the Port. There are tournaments scheduled every weekend in May. Your cooperation is greatly needed during all of our busy weekends. Please remember to park at the sides of the marina if you are fishing for the day.
MARINA
This month we will be hosting the Cal Dixon Fishing Tournament again. Many of you have already committed time, money, boats and more. We appreciate everyone’s help in making this charity event for ARC a success. T-Shirts will be ready for sale by April 26th and Registrations will be in the Port May 1st.
The Captain’s Party and Celebrity Mixer is May 14th in the field behind Frankie’s and Saturday May 15th is the day of the tournament. If your not fishing, just come by and enjoy the fun.
UPCOMING TOURNAMENTS
Check out our website for upcoming tournament dates: sunrisemarina.com/tournaments.php
FISHING FORECAST
Dolphin, Dolphin, Dolphin. If you’re an offshore troller you can’t help but lose sleep over the potential May has for some unbelievable Dolphin fishing. These colorful, aggressive game fish are some of the most sought after fish on the East coast. Boats trolling ballyhoo along color changes and weed lines are most likely to score with these spectacular fish. Wahoo and Sails are also a strong bet. We’re still seeing some great catches of grouper and snapper being brought in also. Inshore, snook fishing will be superb as the water temperatures continue to warm. Bluefish, flounder and tripletail will still be a good bet.
HAPPY ENDINGS
Spring is here, great fishing and great weather. Take advantage of it!!
Hope to see everyone soon!

FYI CONSTUCTION
Enough Already! No updates this month on construction. I hope to be able to provide you with some positive construction news on the new facility next month, with some more reliable dates.
DOCKS
I would like to hear from all of the wet slip storage customers concerning dock boxes. Due to the limited space on the main fueling pier, it will not be feasible for every boat to have a dock box. Please let me know if you would like a dock box, so that I can approve a location. Remember that the appearance of your dock boxes will also be important. Please keep in mind that the new facility will have lockers for your storage.
We hope that everyone is getting settled into their new slips. We realize that you have had to make some compromises and we appreciate your patience and effort. I believe that we will all benefit in the end, with the continued success of Your Charter Business’, Obsession Charters, Sunrise Marina and Grills.
The Charter business is Joe’s first love and primary reason for getting into the marina business and creating Grills Seafood Deck and Tiki Bar. Our appreciation goes to all of our valued Charter Boat Owners and Captain’s for the reputation of the “Sunrise Charter Fleet”. Thank you!
FISHING FORECAST
Although sometimes plagued by strong winds , April should begin our calm weather and great trolling months. Cobia fishing will be excellent on the beaches, either on bait pods or just free swimming. Trolling for dolphin, wahoo and sails will start to take off, while bottom fishing may slow some, but can still be excellent. Snook, bluefish, flounder and pompano can be excellent in the port and nearby beaches.
HAPPY ENDINGS
What more can we say? Spring is approaching and great weather and fishing is ahead. Don’t forget, we have live entertainment at the Tiki Bar every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday! With the increased boat traffic the ramp follies will be an added bonus. So come out, relax and watch it all happen.

F.Y.I.
We are still tweaking our improvement projects. The mess will be cleaned up soon, and then we will have to deal with the building project. The end result will be more than worth the aggravation. Thanks for your patience.
MARINA STORE
The eels are here! We are also keeping stock of mud minnows and pins (when we can get them). The cobia will start to run soon. The weather and water will clear and then it’s game on! More and more fish are being seen on their trek Northward. Get them while they’re here!
Look for Sunrise to bring you the freshest and finest in live and frozen bait this season.
FISHING FORECAST
March, in like a lion, out like a lamb? Who knows! This can be the finest bait pod month of the year. Phenomenal catches of cobia, kings, amberjack and giant Jack Crevalle are possible within a 1/4 mile off the beach.
If the weather does cooperate, look for these bait pods (giant schools of menhaden) to form from Patrick to the tip of the Cape up to 8 miles off the beach. The location of these game fish attractors will be revealed by diving pelicans. Casting jigs or live baits into these giant dark spots (caused by millions of bait fish) will produce spectacular results from predators of all types. Offshore, bottom fishing can still be excellent as well as the possibility of an early run of dolphin and wahoo. In the harbor, weakfish, pompano, bluefish and flounder can all be good bets.
GRILLS
The season is upon us! We are gearing up for the beautiful weather, great food, good music and lots of fun! We all know how great the fish is at Grills, have you heard about the steaks. Grills has one of the best steaks in this area. If you haven’t tried one, you need to.
HAPPY ENDINGS
Bonnie is back from her surgery. She is moving a little slow, but making progress each day. Stop by to say hello and let her know, “we are glad she’s back”!
Spring is here! It’s time to fish!

UPDATES
Docks: Docks, Docks, Docks………By the end of February, we will FINALLY have our new docks completed and hopefully everyone settled in nicely.
Thanks for a great job go to Craig Mest and City Point Construction. Craig and his crew have worked hard to stay on schedule, even with the many changes that Joe and myself have made during the installation.
We are also proud to have our new fish cleaning tables on the deck. It won’t be too much longer before you guys are out there cleaning fish in the hot sun. The one thing we couldn’t provide you with on these beautiful stainless tables is air conditioning. Sorry Gentlemen!
Facility: We are still trudging along with the “Powers that be”, in getting all of our approvals and final drawings for the new facility. I am embarrassed to give you another date, so I’m just going to leave it for this year. We will definitely be building in 2004!
Fueling: As most of you know and have seen, the underground tanks are in. As soon as the new docks are completed we will have two new fueling stations on the main pier, both with gas and diesel. We will also have a fueling station on the North side of the new rack storage building when it is completed.
This little improvement (removing the above ground tanks) will provide us with a nice grassy area. Keep this in mind for events that are planned at Sunrise Marina. This area will be great for Captains Meetings and Catered luncheons, at least until we get the banquet room completed.
F.Y.I
For those of you who haven’t heard. Our illustrious leader, Joe, is engaged to be married. Give him your best wishes when you pass him on the docks.
GRILLS
Grills is sporting a new deck on the backside of the restaurant. Even more room on the waterside to admire the view. If you haven’t seen it, please come by for breakfast, lunch or dinner, kick back and enjoy.
MARINA STORE
Wow, the 10 days following Christmas were some of the best weather and fishing we’ve had in that time period. I hope everyone enjoyed it as much as we did. Now is the time to take care of maintenance on your boat and get your rods and reels ready for the next round of great fishing.
We will soon be receiving our shipment of live eels to entice the often finicky free swimmers soon to invade our costal waters.
With the restaurant in full gear, and spring just around the corner, parking is going to be a real problem this season. If you are going fishing for the day, we do ask that you park on either side of the building. Captains, please make sure your charter moves their vehicles from both the front of the marina and in front of the restaurant and have them park on the sides of the building. Once again, the front of the marina is designated as 15 minute parking only!! Thank you for your cooperation.
FISHING FORECAST
Fabulous February!! Bottom fishing can be awesome! Large numbers of grouper, snapper and cobia can be expected either on the inshore waters or perhaps even early spawn of grouper on 27 fathoms. Surprisingly enough, February can be one of our best months for wahoo. When the conditions get right (calm seas and warm days) wahoo will congregate in large numbers on 27 fathoms. Ballyhoo behind sea-witches or high speed lures will produce the best results. In the Port, fishing can be excellent for flounder, bluefish, weakfish and possibly even a pompano. As always, feel free to call for a weather update or fishing forecast.
HAPPY ENDINGS
Hope everyone has had a good start to the new year. Hopefully this spring brings the best of what we all love: great weather & great fishing.
We are looking forward to a great year and are as always grateful for your support.
Robin and the rest of the Sunrise Crew

Fish Cleaning Tables NOW OPEN |
| The fish cleaning table are open for use. You have to at least come down and take a look, if not to clean a fish. |

With daylight savings time here, its time to change to our Winter Store Hours:
Sun - Thurs: 6 am - 7 pm
Fri & Sat: 6 am - 8 pm
F.Y.I.
As you all have seen we are in the progress of installing underground fuel tanks. Of course it is taking longer than we originally planned; however, I’m told this will be completed by November 7th.
We are having our floating piers constructed at this time. The expected installation date is January, barring any unforeseen events.
Bonnie is out for awhile on medical leave. Please say a prayer for Bonnie; she will be having back surgery in December. Bonnie has been a permanent fixture in the marina store and we all miss seeing her. I know that after her recuperation she will return to work, ready and eager to help with the upcoming projects.
MARINA STORE
Christmas is approaching soon, so don’t forget that someone special when making your purchases! We have received new shipments of fleece jackets and T-shirts as well as some great tackle.
Due to limited daylight hours, our forklift hours will be from 6 am - 5 pm. Please be sure to be at the dock no later than 5 pm as it makes it very difficult to put your boat away safely. If for some reason you are running late, please be sure to call the marina on VHF ch.16 so we know that you are okay.
FISHING FORECAST
November can be the start of the bottom fishing bonanza! Grouper, Snapper and, near the end of the month, Cobia will start to invade the wrecks and reefs off of our coast. November also kicks off our winter run of Kingfish for those who prefer to troll. Wahoo and Sailfish can be found in good concentrations as
well. Around the shrimp boats, the Blackfin Tuna can be tricked by either chumming or trolling. Inshore, Snook will be red hot until the water cools below 72 degrees. Flounder and Bluefish will remain strong regardless.
GRILLS Seafood Deck and Tiki Bar
Breakfast, lunch and dinner with a view! What more needs to be said. Thank you to all who continue to be so supportive. Let us know what else we can do to make improvements.
HAPPY ENDINGS
We have been talking about the plans for the new facility, docks and underground fuel tanks for almost two years now. The progress has been slow, but the end result will be worth it. Much more is on the way!
Happy Thanksgiving
Robin and the Sunrise Crew!

F.Y.I.
Well, we’ve had a few brushes but we are certainly a lot better off than North Carolina. Seems like they get one every year. We still have another month and a half to go. I know you’ve heard it over and over but please have all evacuation plans ready to go if our luck runs out.
New Marina
I know it is a never ending story, but I truly believe things are going to start happening very soon. First up will be the Fuel tanks, they should be gone and underground tanks installed before the next newsletter. (We’ll see). Next comes the floating docks to replace the existing fixed docks. These have been ordered. We have been told to expect 3-5 weeks till delivery. We are hoping to start installing late October early November. We are still waiting for final plans on the Marina –It’s close.
FISHING FORECAST
BLACKFIN TUNA!! (Maybe!) Throughout September and October, large numbers of these spectacular black and gold Game fish can be found, usually in the vicinity of anchored rock shrimp boats. The problem is that there just aren’t enough rock shrimp to keep the fleet here very long. If you do happen to see a shrimp boat anchored in 140 to 180 feet of water check it out, It can be a bonanza! Trolling for Dolphin can be surprisingly good on certain days. Be on the look out for sails and Wahoo as well. Snook season is upon us and early reports from the beach fishermen are good. Live Mullet is the bait of choice in the surf. Large live shrimp and bomber lures rounding out the arsenal in the Port.
HAPPY ENDINGS
Thanks again for the great summer. We are coming up on our ninth year in the marina business. We hope that all the continuing improvements have made this facility user friendly. Much more is on the way!
Safe boating and fishing!

www.sunrisemarina.com
If you have not seen the Sunrise Marina web cam, you need to check out the Sunrise Marina, Grills, and Obsession Fishing Charters websites. The web cam is directed at our brag board, so now, even when you can’t leave your desk, you can still check out the catch of the day. We have been working very hard to provide you with informative websites. Please send any comments or input on what you would like to see to info@sunrisemarina.com.
FYI
Our tropical storm season has been extremely quiet but please remember that can change very quickly. Please have an evacuation plan ready as the Port Authority will require all vessels to leave the Port at 36 hours from a possible strike.
FISHING FORECAST
SMOKERS ARE HERE!! August is prime-time for these large, hungry, aerobatic kings, termed, SMOKERS (term derived from cooking process, not necessarily what they do to a reel!!) The key to success is netting live menhaden (pogies), a feat sometimes much more difficult than catching the kings. Slow trolling with No. 4 4xxxx treble hook rigs is the preferred method. The fish will be caught anywhere from inside the Port, along the buoy line,
off the beaches, and on the inshore reefs. Elsewhere, trolling offshore can be very
sporadic with a mixture of sail, dolphin, and wahoo still possible. Bottom fishing will range from good to terrible depending on the bottom water temperature which can plummet to the 40's for a brief time. Inshore, tripletail, tarpon, snook and flounder will continue to be good.
GRILLS Seafood Deck and Tiki Bar
As usual Grills is hopping with entertainment and fun. After you get the fish and boat cleaned, stop by, say hello, have a drink, relax and enjoy.
HAPPY ENDINGS
I’m sure that all of you are wondering if the new facility will ever be a reality. Believe it or not, we are finally making some head way. Things are not progressing quite as rapidly as we had hoped; however, by this time next year we should be able to see some final results. Barring ANYMORE unforeseen issues we should be prepping the ground for foundation work in the fall.
We have received all the permitting for our docks and at this time are having some re-engineering taken care of. We have been promised final plans in two weeks.
See you on the docks!
Joe, and the rest of the Crew!

F.Y.I.
Well, Mother Nature has provided the much needed rain, but I think she has overdone it a little! It does mean however, that hurricane season is here. Please have evacuation plans ready if Mother Nature decides to send one our way. The Port dictates when an evacuation is called and we are all required by law to respond.
MARINA STORE
We’d like to remind you of our store hours:
Mon - Thur: 6 am - 8 pm
Fri: 6 am – 9 pm
Sat: 5 am - 9 pm
Sun: 5 am - 8 pm
Forklift hours are from 6 am – 6 pm Mon-Fri,
5 am – 7pm Sat & Sun.
The SKA Kingfish Classic on July 12 & 13 is the last tournament on the tournament trail this season. The largest Kingfish brings home a new Contender boat.
FISHING FORECAST

GRILLS Seafood Deck and Tiki Bar
It’s hard to believe 5 years have gone by since GRILLS restaurant opened. A lot has changed since that first year, including the addition of breakfast. We are constantly looking to improve the things we can and add the things you want. Thank you for all the support and input….It is the reason for our success!
HAPPY ENDINGS
The new Marina project is proceeding as fast as possible-----We still hope to break ground in August or September!
The new underground fuel tanks should be installed within the next month.
We are still working on new docks. We have our permits in hand and as soon as we can work out some details, we hope to start on the dock project in September.
Thanks again

Sunrise Marina will once again host the Grills FSFA tournament on June 7th. Dolphin, Wahoo, King, Cobia, Grouper and Snapper are the targeted species. Cash payout for 1st-3rd in the individual categories and the grand slam award. Proceeds from this tournament will go to the Florida Sport fishing Association.
The plans for the new marina are proceeding better than ever. Approvals for underground fuel tanks and the new docks have finally arrived. We plan to install the new fuel tanks after the F.S.F.A.. In order to minimize business interruption we will wait until the fall to replace the old docks. There are still a few hurdles left with the new marina building we are hopeful things continue towards a fall start date.

Saturday and Sunday 5 am to 6 pm
F.Y.I.
Well not too many complaints about this winter! Hope everyone managed to get in a few days of good fishing when mother nature allowed. This summer promises to be as busy as this facility has ever seen. We are once again hosting the Cal Dixon and F.S.F.A. tournaments this year. Cooperation is greatly needed during these events and all of our busy weekends. Please remember to park at the sides of the marina if you are fishing for the day.
MARINA
We are still plugging along with the new marina plans. Our first major change will be to install new underground fuel tanks. This will hopefully take place in June after the F.S.F.A. tournament. There will be some parking issues when installation is occurring… We’ll keep you advised.
UPCOMING TOURNAMENTS
CHECK OUT THE TOURNAMENT LIST ON THE BOTTOM OF SUNRISE HOME PAGE.

FYI
We are still working hard for a fall start date for the new facility. We’ll see… We are going to be installing new underground fuel tanks within the next couple of weeks. This will eventually provide us with multiple diesel and gas hoses on the center dock. ( As soon as the DEP lets put in a new center dock!) The paperwork never ends!
MARINA STORE
Cobia were gobbling up the Eels this past month. Supplies are limited. Make way for Dolphin season coming soon. A 44 lb Bull was brought to the scales last week so be ready it may be an early run!
Beau Franklin Dolphin Tournament April 19th
HAPPY ENDINGS
What more can we say? Spring is approaching and great weather and fishing is ahead. Don’t forget, we have live entertainment at the Tiki Bar every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday! With the increased boat traffic the ramp follies will be an added bonus. So come out, relax and watch it all happen.

F.Y.I.
Grills breakfast has been so well received that we are expanding the kitchen facilities to accommodate demand. This will allow us to serve breakfast till 11 am weekdays and 12 noon on Sat. and Sun.
MARINA STORE
The eels are here and the cobia are gobbling them up quick!
More and more fish are being seen on their trek Northward. Get them while they’re here!
Look for Sunrise to bring you the freshest and finest in live and frozen bait this season.
We are still chipping away at all of the requirements for the new marina. Hurry up and wait seems to be the process. We’ll keep you posted.
HAPPY ENDINGS
Jerry is almost fully recovered from knee surgery. We have all missed his charm and are grateful for his return.
Spring is here. . . .it’s time to fish!
Joe, and the rest of the Sunrise Crew.
