Swordfish,
Marlin and Sailfish
Swordfish,
Marlin (White and Blue) and Sailfish can be found in the deep
waters of Florida, Bahamas and the Caribbean. The Sailfish
can generally be found closer to the coastline than the Swordfish
and Marlin.
Swordfish:
Scientific data records that swordfish have declined by 70%
in the Atlantic waters and will be distinct within 10 years.
Big fish are rare and seldom hooked. Florida record is 612
pounds, 4 ounces.
Recommended
tackle is to use at least 50-pound line and rigged bait fish,
preferably squid.
Marlin:
Great game fish for its speed, power and acrobatics. Florida
record for Blue Marlin is 980 pounds.
Recommended
tackle can be artificial trolling lures, large baitfish and
rigged natural baits such as Mullet, Mackerel, and large Ballyhoo.
Sailfish:
Rapid growing species, reaching 4 to 5 feet in a single year;
swims at speeds up to 50 knots. Florida record is 116 pounds.
Feeds
on the surface or at mid-depths on smaller pelagic fish and
squid. Live baiting is recommended.
