Snapper
There are several
species of snapper caught along Florida’s
Coast and throughout the tropics. Mangrove, Red, Lane, Mutton
and Yellowtail are all common and are usually a welcome adversary
to all bottom fishermen.
Known for their
excellent table fare, snapper will eat a variety of dead
and live baits. The preferred baits along
the East Coast of Florida are live cigar minnows and live
Spanish sardines. Dead sardines and squid will also work
when live bait is unavailable. Anglers often use “Sibiki” rigs
to obtain live bait which is generally abundant around buoys,
reefs and wrecks.
